The Hilo High Foundation recently announced that it will be holding it’s first in-person Awards Dinner since 2020.
It will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday evening, June 2, at Sangha Hall.
To assist the foundation in its endeavors, please consider attending this 11th Annual Distinguished Alumni Awards Annual Recognition Dinner.
The foundation will recognize Arnold Hiura, (HHS Class of ’69). Arnold is the executive director of the Hawaii Japanese Center and the former editor of the Hawaii Herald. He was curator for the Japanese American National Museum’s traveling exhibition, “From Bento to Mixed Plate,” and has written numerous articles and books on local food and culture.
The foundation will also recognize Harry Kim (HHS Class of ’57). Kim is internationally famous as the former head of Hawaii County Civil Defense and a three-term mayor of the county. Kim is one of the most popular public figures in current Hawaii County history.
The foundation also will recognize Michael Nakasone (HHS Class of ’62). Michael is world-renowned as a band director, having led the Hawaii Youth Symphony, the Pearl City High School Band, the Royal Hawaiian Band and the Punahou School Band.
Please consider attending this dinner. Tickets are $100 and include a special dinner catered by Don’s Grill.
Special tables for group sponsors are available: Platinum $2,500, Blue $2,000, Gold $1,500, and Viking $1,000. This would be a great time for honoree supporters and alums to put together a table with classmates to honor them and help Hilo High and the foundation. The
